Quando a Apple anunciou a nova versão do Watch, disse que o aparelho vem com um chip também novo, o S4, duas vezes mais potente que seu antecessor. Pela primeira vez, ele tem processador em 64-bit, em Dual Core. Embora a Apple não abra muitos detalhes, é possível ter dimensão da potência do smartwatch: segundo o desenvolvedor Steve Trouhton-Smith, a capacidade do Watch 4 é equivalente à do iPhone 6s — para cima.

Em uma análise de uso de CPU, ele mostra que apenas 64% da capacidade do aparelho estava sendo utilizado, o que para ele é equivalente a um iPhone 6s ou mais recente. “A CPU ainda tem potência de sobra. Que CPU monstruosa, eu precisaria de um iPhone 6s ou mais novo para ter um desempenho similar fora de um iPhone com este app e esta tela”, ele escreve.
Apesar da empolgação de Trouhton-Smith, testes realizados pelo MacRumors não mostram que o novo Watch seja assim tão “monstruoso” como ele aponta. O site fez no início da semana alguns testes de velocidade de boot, Siri e alguns apps, comparando a velocidade de todos os modelos do Watches já lançados.
Apesar de bem mais rápido em ligar o sistema operacional, o smartwatch não se mostrou tão mais veloz em executar outras funções como de busca e apps nativos em comparação com Watch 3.
Potência para quê?
Os motivos para que a Apple tenha investido em elevar a capacidade do dispositivo são basicamente dois: o sistema de reconhecimento de quedas e a ferramenta de eletrocardiograma (ECG) simples.
Um ator realizou testes para tentar enganar o dispositivo com quedas falsas. Assim, ele mostrou que, de fato, o Watch 4 faz um bom trabalho e saber quando uma pessoa efetivamente caiu e precisa de ajuda.
Já o ECG do Watch 4 ainda diverge opiniões. A Apple disse que o sistema é capaz de fazer um exame em 30 segundos e informar se o usuário tem problemas de fibrilação atrial, além de fazer acompanhamentos constantes. Embora o Food and Drug Administration (FDA), órgão regulatório dos EUA, tenha aprovado a venda do Watch 4, ressalta que ele deve ser usado junto com exames convencionais.
Aqui no Brasil, a Agência Nacional de Vigilância Sanitária precisa dar aval para a comercialização do aparelho. Contudo, o órgão informou que a Apple ainda não registrou nenhum pedido de aprovação em território nacional.
